About my life

My Story

I grew up in Seminole, Florida. I was born on September 4th, 2002 and I had a decent childhood. I grew up around music, for me it was the only way I could express my emotions and feelings without being ridiculed and judged by everyone else, so it has a special place in my heart. When I got into band for 6th grade, I had Eric Krause as my first middle school band director, he was a professional bassoonist and a great teacher. The story goes like this, we were looking at different instruments to play and Mr. Krause wanted us to pick 2-3 different instruments to try out, I had previously used my parent's computer a few weeks before going into 6th grade to look at the instruments and see what instruments existed. I had looked through all of them and I wasn't really satisfied with the selection I had, that was until I watched a video of a bassoon quartet playing. It was a bassoon quartet by Michel corrette called Le Phénix, the 1st movement, Allegro, I was just astonished by the range and unique tone of the bassoon and the sheer beauty it could display when in a quartet or a concert setting. I knew at that point I wanted to play the bassoon, going to school that day I saw that in order to play the bassoon you had to have 3 years of experience on a clarinet or saxophone. The mistake Mr. Krause made that day was when he put a picture of the bassoon and an oboe on the end of the other side of the page with text explaining that you couldn't switch to them until you had experice with certain instrument so when he told us to circle 2-3 instruments, we wanted to play I did not circle anything but the bassoon. He got a good laugh out of it and the next week he let us play all the instruments to verify and tell us if we were good enough to play a certain instrument. I went in to play good on the French horn and clarinet but to my surprise he was letting us get a chance to play on the oboe and bassoon just for fun, it was unscripted at least from what I remember because he let us do it last minute as the class was 10 minutes till it was over. I went over only to play the bassoon; he was holding it so it wouldn't fall down and when it was my turn, I played it on open for a few second and he was just silent. Then he looked at me and told me that day that I was going to play it in band. I will never forget that moment and even today I'm still grateful he chose to let me play it.
